Hello!

I’m Scott

I’m a web designer and dialysis patient in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I do dialysis at home and manage it myself with the help of a local dialysis clinic.  I connect 3 nights out of every 4.  It takes me about 40 minutes to 1 hour to start the dialysis and it lasts about 11 hours once it’s started.

I need a kidney.

I am on Dialysis almost daily.  You may know that means neither of the 2 kidneys I was born with are functioning well. Dialysis isn’t a permanent solution.  According to the National Kidney Foundation, the average life expectancy for a patient on dialysis is 5-10 years.

On average, a kidney transplant from a living donor lasts 20-25 years, With the gift of a kidney, you give me life.

How are you affected?

Is my life shortened by my kidney donation?

Donating a kidney does not affect a person’s life expectancy. On the contrary, studies show that people who donate a kidney outlive the average population.

How long is the process to donate a kidney?

The donation process depends on how many tests are required of the donor and how quickly he or she is able to complete them. The average donor work up may take six months or more for completion and may depend on test results, which may indicate additional evaluation is required.

Can you give me more information about what to expect?
